This book will help pupils to prepare for success at Common Entrance, entrance exams at 13+ and Scholarship.  Clear commentary on Biblical texts for Sections 1 and 2 of the Common Entrance paper is followed by rigorous practice questions for each topic. Contemporary issues relating to the texts featured are also explored, and there is strong emphasis on encouraging whole class discussion of the issues raised.

Please note that although this textbook has not been revised for the new Common Entrance examination, it does however contain material for those preparing for Common Entrance at 13+.

Religious Studies for Today Benefits

  • Offers a range of stimulating work to test and challenge pupils of all abilities.

  • Exploration of contemporary issues that arise from the Bible texts will help pupils reflect on how the issues relate to their own lives.

Chris Nott, The Hawthorns School - 10 Jan 2011
In recent years, this book has lost some ground to the colourful, pupil-friendly and eye-catching alternative of Susan Grenfell's 'Religious Studies for Common Entrance'. Nonetheless, it is still a valuable resource with some clear concise commentaries and good questions. I do only dip into it now, although it was our main resource prior to Susan Grenfell's offering.

Jonathan Banyard, Mount House School - 5 Jan 2011
I have used Religious Studies For Today right from the start of its life and I think it's excellent for getting pupils through the Bible sections of the CE syllabus - for Mount House pupils anyway - and it still works well in the 2010-2011 academic year!

Sue Barnard, Hazelwood School - 5 Jan 2011
This book is always a good support for this subject in the Humanities Department. The link up with our syllabus and every day issues is most helpful and current. A good resource for teaching Religious Studies in the Upper School.
