***** Excellent! My son is in year 3 but we are definitely enjoying this book already. It is easy to use and the exercises are fun and challenging too.

***** I'm a homeschooler and have scoured the net to find suitable science workbooks which incorporate information that won't bog us down, include sufficient review questions and have a concise teacher's guide that didn't get me in a muddle and dreading to use it. This series is the best I've found by far. The others were either uninspiring or didn't include everything I needed. I still supplement the work we cover with other activities, but this is good for covering everything they're supposed to know for their age. The pupil book is brilliant.

We've looked at a lot of science materials for our 6 year old - this was streets ahead of the rest. From a homeschooling perspective, it's ideally suited: after every section, there are differentiated sets of questions, so I tend to quiz orally using one of these and then, when we come to the book again, use another to revise the topic before moving on. I also like that topics are short and sweet; they leave you wanting more, and you are not faced with a year of botany, for example. Excellent.

The layout of the book is very friendly. The font is easy on the eye and large as well. The photographs have been well chosen and are also well supplemented by clear diagrams and cartoons. The information within each chater is well chosen and allows for differentiation through clever use of DisdYou Know? sections. These allow much scope for independent thinking and learning.

Our role as educators is to excite the curiosity of the young and stimulate their natural demand to understand the world around them. This book, with its superb mix of relevent scientific fact, suggested practical activities and exercises, does this in full.

Children today are growing up in a world where the significance of science is increasingly evident and impinges on many aspects of their lives, generating interest, amazement and curiosity. It is the responsibility of educators to foster and stimulate these traits and excite children to learn and understand the world of science that surrounds them. This book, the first in a series of 3, is written by experienced teachers of this age range, provides a superb mix of relevant scientific fact, suggested practical activities and exercises. It will excite the curiosity of the young and stimulate their natural demand to know and understand more of the world of science about them. So often I hear: 'Grandpa, do you know.....?' Children are innately curious and demand knowledge; it is our role to stimulate and guide their development. This book does this in full measure.

Fantastic! The most scientifically detailed textbook I know for this age range. A colourful, vibrant book that is jam-packed with great science. Pupils will love to read this in school and at home.

WOW! The presentation is attractive and stimulating - just what is needed to capture, and hold, the attention of the young, especially for the significant minority who find the subject more challenging.
